GOODWILL URGES PEOPLE TO CELEBRATE THE SEASON
WITH AN END-OF-YEAR TAX WRITE-OFF

Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut urges people to get some of that cash spent for holidays back by donating gently used clothing and other unwanted items to Goodwill Industries for an end-of-year tax write-off. With the economy worsening and so many people out of work, Goodwill needs the public’s donations more than ever before. Donations given in the form of cash and checks are also very welcome.
Thanks to these generous donations, Goodwill helps local people find jobs so that they can change their lives by becoming self-sufficient. With the faltering economy more people are shopping for Goodwill’s bargains and your donation is more important than ever. Goodwill accepts clothing, furniture and other household item and provides receipts for tax purposes.  To take advantage of your end-of-the-year tax write-off, you need to beat the December 31st deadline.
Donors may claim a deduction only for items that are in "good" condition. General guidelines for taking tax deductions can be found in IRS publications 526 and 561 and Goodwill's "A Guide to Donating" brochure. You can download these publications on our Guide to Donating Webpage.
Goodwill uses the revenue from the sale of donations for its education and career services for people with disabilities and disadvantages such as welfare dependency, homelessness, and lack of education or work experience. Programs include vocational assessment, job-seeking and retention skills, job coaching, supported employment, occupational skills training, and job placement. Recently, Goodwill has added services to residential programs, developed additional services to address the unique needs of individuals with an autism spectrum disorder, strengthened services for individuals with an acquired brain injury and expanded its retail training and youth programs.
Goodwill Stores provide jobs, job training and financial support for employment programs. For a list of store locations and attended donation centers (including hours of operation), for further information, or to make a financial donation, please click here. Or call 1-800-423-9787.
