CONGRESSMAN CHRISTOPHER SHAYS MEETS WITH GOODWILL'S BRAIN INJURY SOCIAL GROUP

On Wednesday, October 29, Congressman Christopher Shays visited Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut in Bridgeport to address a meeting of Goodwill’s Traumatic Brain Injury Social Group, a group that has benefitted from the Congressman’s support. The goal of the group is to provide adults with TBI/ ABI with an opportunity to meet and socialize in a safe and healthy environment.

The meetings are co-facilitated by Goodwill staff and traumatic brain injury advocate Craig Sears (a Wilton Resident), who is himself receiving services through Goodwill’s Acquired Brain Injury Program.  Meetings are open to anyone with an acquired or traumatic brain injury. Shays visited the group for about 45 minutes discussing issues of importance to the participants.

Goodwill and Mr. Sears are very grateful for the support of Congressman Shays. Since there are limited social opportunities available in this area for people with a traumatic brain injury, they would like to be able expand and enhance these groups in the near future.

Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut is a non-profit organization that provides employment and support services to people with disabilities and others facing challenges to employment and community living. Goodwill’s Acquired Brain Injury Program, now serving 60 individuals, enables people with an acquired brain injury to live outside of institutions and nursing homes by providing non-medical support, independent living, residential and vocational services to them in their own communities.
