Due to the generous response of the public to its annual Thanksgiving Appeal and a greatly increased need in the community, Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut is assembled 810 Thanksgiving Boxes containing a turkey and groceries for distribution to local families in need.   That’s 450 more than last year.

On Monday, November 24, 2008, about 35 volunteers from RBS Bank in Bridgeport and the KPMG Accounting Firm in Stamford along with several individual community volunteers assembled and filled the boxes at Goodwill Headquarters at 165 Ocean Terrace in Bridgeport. Student volunteers from St. Luke’s School in New Canaan had already labeled the boxes on an earlier date. The food was then distributed to the Department of Children and Families, Daughters of Charity, Waltersville/Barnum Family Center, Longfellow School and several Bridgeport Churches and other local organizations for distribution.

Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut is a non-profit organization that provides employment and support services to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. Through programs that offer people the opportunity to develop the life-changing skills they need to obtain and keep a job, Goodwill helps the individuals it serves gain hope, dignity and financial independence. For over 55 years, the nonprofit agency has offered a full range of vocational and support services to people with disabilities and others facing challenges to employment and community living.
