Goodwill Recognizes Bridgeport Student
Bridgeport resident Dina Sann not only graduated from Bridgeport’s Central High School, but she also received a certificate for completing Goodwill’s School to Work Transition program. At a graduation brunch held at Goodwill in Dina’s honor, Terri Allen, Young Adult Services Coordinator, praised Dina for her overcoming obstacles and becoming an accomplished and confident individual who is ready to share her talents with the world.
Goodwill’s School-To-Work Transition Program provides services to high school special education students referred by local boards of education. Students learn job skills through weekly vocational skills groups and vocational exploration at Goodwill and community job sites. Goodwill then facilitates their transition to employment and adult services. Dina learned vocational skills by working at GameStop with the help of a Goodwill job coach. She did an excellent job of keeping the walls of games neat and orderly. With Goodwill’s help, she is now applying for a competitive retail position at local department stores.
Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut is a non-profit organization that provides employment and support services to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. Goodwill programs help people gain the skills they need to obtain and keep a job so that they may become self-sufficient.
