GOODWILL PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH FREE BACKPACKS

When students at three Connecticut schools begin classes this year, Goodwill Industries is being a good neighbor by providing each student with a free brand new backpack. The schools are Longfellow School at 139 Ocean Terrace in Bridgeport, Shelter Rock School at 2 Crow’s Nest Lane in Danbury and the Fred D. Wish School at 350 Barbour Street in Hartford. The schools were chosen because they are in needy districts in close proximity to a Goodwill location.

Goodwill distributed 500 backpacks to Longfellow School on Monday, August 31st  and 475 backpacks to students at the Frederick D. Wish School on Wednesday, September 2nd.

Goodwill will visit Shelter Rock School in Danbury on Tuesday, September 8th  at 10:00 am and hand out approximately 420 backpacks.

Inside the backpacks the students can find an array of new school supplies, including a pencil box, pencils, erasers, colored markers, a ruler, a calculator, notebooks and a coupon for 25% off their next purchase at the Goodwill Store. Realizing that many parents are strapped for cash this year, Goodwill wants to help out by providing the students with the tools they need to succeed.

Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut is a non-profit organization that provides employment and support services to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. Through programs that offer people the opportunity to develop the life-changing skills they need to obtain and keep a job, Goodwill helps the individuals it serves gain hope, dignity and financial independence.
